Site Remediation for Land Development
  • Program and task management for a multi-million dollar
cleanup effort associated with the former Mare Island Naval
    Shipyard in Vallejo, California.
  • Extensive negotiations with California and Federal
regulatory agencies (DTSC, Water Board, EPA).
  • Preparation and implementation of a Site Control Plan and
a Soil and Groundwater Management Plan covering a 650-
acre portion of the former shipyard.
  • Preparation of sampling and analysis plans, site
    characterization reports, feasibility studies, and
    implementation reports.
  • Characterization, remediation, and regulatory closure of
    570 sites contaminated with PCBs.
  • Characterization, remediation, and regulatory closure of
more than 100 petroleum contaminated sites.
  • Characterization, remediation, and regulatory closure of
49,000 feet of fuel oil pipeline and 26,000 feet of industrial
    wastewater pipeline.
  • Preparation of land use covenant implementation plans.
  • Coordination of cleanup of lead based paint in soil.
  • Soil gas surveys at petroleum contaminated sites.
  • Indoor air evaluations in residential and commercial
    buildings.
  • Participation in Restoration Advisory Board meetings.
Our approach is to integrate the environmental cleanup into the development project. We keep our focus on the end goal
of development, rather than approaching the environmental issues as a separate project. The benefits of integrating the
cleanup are simplified regulatory interactions, minimized delays, and reduced project costs. By recognizing and
accounting for environmental issues during the planning phase, owners and contractors will know what to expect during
construction. The regulators and public will be more comfortable proceeding with development because they know if any
contamination is encountered it will be handled, managed, and disposed of properly.
Our project experience with site remediation for land
development is highlighted below.
